BRIEF 05: UNSUNG HEROES & HEROINES//TEST PRINT MOCK UP//OUGD603

test print / mock up
This is a mock up of what the final book will look like, this was really important as when I printed the first mock up it was actually A5, which I liked but once I tested the printing in a custom size bigger than A5 I found it suited the content of the publication more so.  This was printed on standard printer paper, which was good in terms of paper weight because I didn't want it any thicker, but in terms of quality it didn't work so well.

mistakes:
Putting together a mock up allowed me to look for any typos or mistakes that I had not taken out, as you can see on the right page the word 'struggled' has been split across two lines, making it difficult to read, this will be changed for the real print job.
stock/ordering paper and printing problems:
I firstly printed the booklet on a stock from the library, cartridge paper which I thought would work quite well, however when it was printed and folded over to bind the paper became too thick and because there is a lot of dark inks and blacks in the print job you could see it bleed through to the other side of the page.

I wasn't happy with the overall print job and I almost felt like the mock up was of a better quality than the actual real print.  I decided to look for more paper options and came across a stock I liked on GF smith which printed photograph images really well (this was important as most of my work features some form of photography in it) and was thin enough but still felt of a good quality.  The stock was also an off white which at first I wasn't sure whether that would be the best option, however, when test printing I was really happy with the overall result.
front cover design/ mock up:
Once I had tried the black cover with Baskerville in white using the vinyl and having no luck I needed to think of a new idea for the front cover.  I felt this was quite important as the front cover is the first thing the audience see when looking at the publication, it sets the style for the content of the book.  I thought something that could look quite nice and be effective would be to have a grid of images taken from inside the booklet, this way it would highlight the idea of celebrating unsung heroes and heroines, as a collective image on the front of the page.
