BRIEF 11: DRINKS CLUB//DEVELOPMENT//OUGD603

the drinks club // logo development
This was the logo I originally wanted to use for the drinks club as it is the original art work above the door.  I started sketching it out which was a lot harder than I thought because you need a steady hand to ensure when you scan it in its as smooth as possible, otherwise it'll look unprofessional.  This is the problem I was up against whilst trying to digitise the logo.  The significant problem was my sketch didn't seem to be drawn out well enough to scan in and digitise and I lacked the experience in photoshop/illustrator to fix the logo:
This is the logo drawn out and scanned in which doesn't look too bad from a distance, however when you get up close you can see areas of it that show very obviously pen lines and textures, lines and areas that need a smoother curve.  Live tracing still didn't help solve the curve textures and it didn't look to a good enough standard to actually use:

After drawing it out I scanned it in and looked at the best ways to try and transform it digitally, this thin lined drawing with no colour the logo looks slightly cleaner but you can see the imperfections too clearly and this isn't exactly what I had in mind.
digital:
After trying this approach I looked at live tracing of a photograph of the original plaque the logo featured on (as it was hand painted the original lines aren't as smooth and so created a jagged final outcome)
I then looked at how I could possibly manipulate the image to look smoother, editing anchor points and adding new lines with the pen-tool.  You can see the C on the right looks smoother, and has made a difference but the process was too time consuming for the result I got.  Im not happy enough with the outcome to continue as I feel it will take a long time, which wouldn't be a problem if I thought I was going to be happy with the design.  I think this is probably something I need to put a bit of time into when the deadline is not so close.
