I was struggling with how I could design the visuals for this publication. As I had already used old photographs and letters for the promotional material I didn't want to go too much into that area of design as I also think it can look slightly naff sometimes as modern technology allows filters to make modern photography look dated and I think that can sometimes be obvious. I have been using and would use authentic and original objects and props, however I wanted to try and take a different approach. After looking at some zines I photographed from ditto press and looking at how I could approach this in a simplistic way.
ditto publications:
Going into ditto and looking at these publications gave me a new approach to the design I wanted to take to this publication. At first I wanted to take the look of the top publication and have simple postcards that simply state the quote, possibly using different typefaces for different heroes.
However, looking at these photos gave me new options, and I thought about how I could include photos or possessions in the booklet. I do want to keep it black and white as I think this will help with the consistency of the publication.
For my new idea I decided to get everyone that I'd asked about their unsung hero if I could borrow a possession/letter etc that I could use to scan in along with the unsung heroes name and quote written about them.
collecting possessions:
This is what the final imagery will look like in the book
