BRIEF 05: UNSUNG HEROES//BOOK DEVELOPMENT//OUGD603

design development:
After scanning the visuals in I decided that the design definitely benefited from being black and white, and also a subtle half tone which I just think added some texture and a certain style that wasn't there before.

layout decisions:
I think the text written on the left hand side adds to the overall layout of the book and works well next to the visual.  In terms of layout I think the first one works better (second line of text underneath first line) I think it looks neater, cleaner and is more fitting with the image.

opening page:
I was unsure about the design for the opening page, I still haven't thought directly about the front cover and whether it should just have a title, with only text or a similar visual to the content of the book.  For the opening page I thought it would be fitting to have a quote that sums up an idea of an unsung hero/heroine, I particularly liked this one because it was used on the ISTD brief.  The publication features the title which is simply, A celebration of unsung heroes and heroines.
page layout:
The page layout will consist of a visual for each persons unsung hero with a numbered hero and a small passage taken from the collected research that will display the opening sentence of the reason for that persons unsung hero, which is then followed by a smaller passage with more in depth detail.
front cover ideas:
I decided to try the same approach for the front cover to keep the design consistent, however, I didn't really like the final outcome, I thought it looked untidy and a bit like a 'scrap book' which wasn't how I wanted the publication to come across.
general layout:  General layout of publication, quite simple, I wanted to avoid photographs as I thought this could add to the whole 'scrap book' style, which I wanted to avoid.  Instead the visual is the scanned name of the unsung hero, the collected passage with a smaller in depth passage.
final layout:
