DITTO RESEARCH BRIEF//THE BRIEF AND INITIAL IDEAS//OUGD603

DITTO brief:
Think of a way to collect/archive/ display your research.  There is no point in research if it doesn't lead to a useful outcome.  Everybody works in a different way, we want you to find a methodology that works for you.  For example: a hard drive full of weird photos off the internet is an asset, not an incidental factor.  Find a way to celebrate it, present it and make it work for you.

From the importance highlighted on research over the time I've been on the course I feel this is a great opportunity to really engage on the research aspect of a project and hopefully come up with some interesting and different techniques for recording and researching.

my idea:
After having recorded a few conversations for the Dialogue brief, yet not using them as part of the design, I decided I liked the research outcome of this and found interesting snippets of conversation that could make for some interesting design work.  I haven't thought about the final outcome too much, my idea was based more heavily on the researching technique behind it.  Whilst on my foundation I really enjoyed this research method of recording journeys and conversations etc. and thought it would be interesting to go back to looking at after three years of progress.
useful for me personally

As a graphic designer I think communication is essential, recording communication, probably the most important form of communication, interaction with one another, conversations, dialogue etc.  I think this bank of collected primary research could lead to further ideas and work as an archive of text and information and inspiration for future projects.  Gathering a small amount of conversations already has been interesting, using words and language in my work is something I've been interested in since before my foundation.  This way of researching allows for original and interesting text as opposed to always using literature/film and music references.
Bens feedback:
I explained my idea to Ben, talking mostly about the research technique I wanted to do, which was mapping and mostly focusing on conversation.  Ben said that he took note of conversations for him to look back on and get ideas/inspiration and as designers looking at this subject was key as communication is vital in graphic design.  I just need to think of an interesting way of either collecting or displaying these conversations.
