Whilst in the corn exchange in Leeds I came across this small zine that featured some really nice hand rendered typography. This is something I've wanted to do for a while, use scanned in bits of handwriting and possibly manipulate them. I felt this technique would work well for the unsung heroes brief as I feel handwriting would be more personal and possibly evocative when dealing with the idea of unsung heroes and remembering and celebrating.
The basic idea is to collect a sentence from various people about their unsung hero/heroine and then use this to make a postcard celebrating that person, the postcards should form a collection that would hopefully work in book form. I want to explore collaging and how I can combine certain images with hand written type and play around with the visuals.
I like the idea of combining hand writing with standard typography as I think this could make a nice contrast and also the essential information about the exhibition, the individual, the date etc. will probably need to be displayed in a clear and legible way.
