I first started looking at visuals I would want to associate with the term InterRail, for example train tickets, map, globe, european continent, photographs from InterRail etc. I wanted to use my own photography as the main focus and look at how I could layout the appropriate information on the poster. I didn't want the design to be a really obvious promotional InterRail poster because most promotional posters to publicise train companies aren't especially visually engaging or exciting. InterRail is a cultural and unique experience and this should be seen in the poster.
In terms of typefaces and fonts used I wanted to keep it to a legible and recognised, something like Helvetica, or a block typeface. In terms of slogans that go underneath the logo, the InterRail website use 'enjoy your trip' other alternatives that I thought could be used are: Discover Europe, A true European Experience and Discover the rail you...
I thought about incorporating the symbolism of a train track instead of lines in the poster, I don't think this would work well with the images I have in mind.
I wanted to use the outline of the European continent on the poster as I thought this was quite a detailed way to symbolise InterRail. I will draw out the continent with the individual countries that are included in the global pass. Depending on how big the map was on the final design of the poster I could dot out the individual train stations in each country. I also want to try and incorporate this mapped outline into some kind of logo or symbol for InterRail, a circle textured cut on could work as the background of the logo and represent the globe.
First thought on what information I think should be included on the poster: prices for each age range, so youth (under twenty five) adult, child and senior and the price also considering the length of trip and days used. I think its also important to include the countries involved in the InterRail package and a link to the website on further details of how to buy, plan and book your trip. A small summary of what the InterRail Global Pass actually is would also be included on the poster.
