extending the brief
Whilst looking through research and developing my idea for this brief I came up with an interesting idea that I think could extend the brief, having two parts, one part being completed before Christmas, the other after. The first part of the brief is looking mainly at the individual as an unsung hero/heroine and telling a story. The second part of the brief that I would like to continue is to create some promotional material for a proposed exhibition celebrating 'unsung heroes/heroines' an exhibition of interesting stories and memories from individuals. I wouldn't actually put on the exhibition but I would like to set up a small display. To get a collection of data I was thinking about asking a certain amount of people to send in/email me a photo of their unsung hero with a sentence or two explaining why. I will then design the photo and type into a postcard which will then be displayed as a group, a collection of unsung heroes/heroines.
For the first part of the brief I want to create a story about my dad's aunt, Edythe McQuade, who was good hearted and kind and suffered some tragedies. I will explore her story through letters and information I can find out from family members, images/photographs etc.The idea would be to create three or four images that tell the story and display them as posters as a small display, I would quite like to frame them because I think this would make the photographs look better. Something that I thought about additionally from the posters was to display a collection of photographs and letters as an image to sum up part of Edythe's life.
The further the brief is pushed the more I will look at other areas that I am interested in such as the topic of memories and how long we are remembered for and how everyones memory of an event is slightly different and so no memory is ever the same, it is unique to every individual.
