These are a few images I took to get some ideas and inspiration for some of my own designs. I think researching contemporary CD design is important as it gives an idea into the current designs and what style and trend are being considered. These are some record designs on display, I think as a selection of contemporary record sleeve designs they work really well together. Use of photography seems to be a consistent theme throughout a lot of designs. The central design (the photograph with the railings) is designed by Leif Podhajsky, whose work I really like, and who I am also looking at for brief 08: Spectrum.
Not all of the record sleeves are modern designs but I think its good to get a comparison and see if the designs have progressed or if modern designs take a lot of influence from old record sleeve designs etc. Photography and collaging is something I want to look at when designing the record sleeves, looking at making patterns or abstract photographs and designs. I like the idea of focusing on colours and lighting and distorting images to create new ones, layering, multiplying and reflecting.
Something to consider when designing the sleeves is stock and what would best suit the format of a record sleeve. Something that I have thought about in terms of printing is if I decide to use some images I have taken on a disposable camera I don't know how much I could enlarge before the image becomes pixelated. This is why I will also consider making a back up collection of CD's.
